Kent 1st XI men won in style this weekend with an entertaining fixture vs Middlesex in the Royal London One Day Cup. As well as this excitement, we had the Gilbert Cup, a junior competition sponsored by Royal London, that runs alongside the senior fixtures and this year gave Sissinghurst Girls the chance to from the Guard of Honour and play on the Spitfire Ground outfield.
The men were no doubt buoyed by the fantastic welcome they received onto the pitch as the girls waved their flags in the tunnel. As well as leading out the players, there was a chance for them to meet and greet the players which they relished, finishing their experience with a game of Pairs Cricket on the outfield in front of the match day crowd.
After a final group photo, the Gilbert Cup purple kit bags were donated to Sissinghurst Cricket Club and the girls took home their bright purple cap, t-shirt and water bottle to help them continue their club cricket. With a blossoming girls section, Kent Cricket wanted to reward Sissinghurst Cricket Club for their commitment to the development of the female game and we are excited to see how many girls they can get playing.
We would like to thank everybody for their support and share some of the photos taken on the day.
